With every edition, a new theme and a new format.
Códigos Negros is a space dedicated to celebrating Black culture. Through it, Olabi aims to build dialogues based on the relationship between art and technology, reflecting on the transformations of our society through the promotion of an anti-racist culture and the strengthening of rights. Created in 2019, we gather artists, thinkers, and activists from Brazil and the Global South to spark imaginations and reflect on the role of Afro-diasporic thought in creating fairer futures. A space for listening, resistance, and reinvention, where imagination is treated as a technology and a political tool.

OTHER CODES, NEW STORIES

“We have collaborated on different actions, but with Códigos Negros, I could see even more closely the nature of Olabi, which over the last ten years has built a tradition of welcoming and potentiating innovative works from their embryonic stages.

Bruno F. Duarte, Open Society Foundations

WHAT ARE THE BLACK CODES OF IMAGINATION?

“Códigos Negros celebrates Black culture in a constructive way, integrating artistic languages and technology. We want to provoke reflections and questions about technology through art. What we call ‘black codes’ are those capable of feeding new databases, telling other stories, and making us reflect on our memory and ancestry. Technologies are times, bodies, territories, performances, and languages.”

Silvana Bahia, co-executive director of Olabi
