Sowing Futures

Strengthening independent media in Brazil is a democratic infrastructure strategy.
This project was created with the goal of supporting Black leaders and managers of independent media outlets in Brazil in keeping their organizations alive and sustainable. Producing purposeful and high-quality journalism is often not enough. Without financial sustainability, these media outlets face constant cycles of precariousness, discontinuity, and disappearance.

In Brazil, independent media plays an irreplaceable role in strengthening democracy. These outlets cover territories forgotten by major media conglomerates, amplify the voices of systematically underrepresented communities, and produce the journalism that the traditional market has no interest in producing.

This project was created with the goal of supporting the reforestation of the Brazilian media ecosystem and sowing futures. Our first initiative is a free online training program on financial sustainability aimed at Black, Indigenous, and Quilombola leaders of independent media outlets in Brazil.

Applications are open and will close on June 7!

There will be seven live online sessions in total. Classes begin on June 10, and participants who achieve at least 75% attendance will receive a certificate of completion.

The full training program will be announced soon!

Em breve, divulgaremos o programa completo da formação!
